Remake Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 6119R-001 Review: Buying Guide for Specialty Stores?

Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and recently I got my hands dirty trying to remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Yeah, that fancy one. I thought, why not share how I went about it? Might be fun, might be a disaster, who knows.

First off, I started by digging up everything I could about this watch. I mean, this thing is a big deal in the watch world. People sometimes have to wait for years, some say even up to 8 years to get their hands on the original! It’s crazy, like, you could raise a kid in that time. But for a remake? Maybe not that long, but still a journey.

Getting Started

  • Gathering Info: I spent days just reading, watching videos, and talking to some folks in specialty stores. Trying to understand what makes this watch tick, literally.
  • Finding Parts: This was tough. I had to find parts that looked right, felt right, and wouldn’t break the bank. Scouring online stores, hitting up some local shops, it was a real treasure hunt.

Then came the tricky part, putting it all together. I’m not gonna lie, there were moments where I thought I’d messed up big time. But, I took it slow, one step at a time. The bezel, those Clous de Paris thingies, was a pain. And the hands, they’re so tiny! I needed to use tweezers and a magnifying glass, felt like a surgeon or something.

Putting It Together

  • The Bezel: I tried to get that Clous de Paris pattern as close as possible. It’s not perfect, but it gives that fancy look.
  • The Hands: Aligning those three-dimensional hands was a test of patience. But once they were on, it started to look like the real deal.

After a lot of trial and error, and a few choice words here and there, I finally got it assembled. It’s not the original, obviously, but it’s got that vibe. It’s a bit bigger than some of the older Calatravas, which I actually like. Makes it feel more… present, I guess?

The Result

So, was it worth it? I think so. It was a cool project, and I learned a ton about watches. Plus, now I have something that looks pretty darn close to a Patek Philippe Calatrava on my wrist. And I didn’t have to wait 8 years or spend a fortune. But yeah it’s not the same as walking into a store and buying a real Patek Philippe, which I heard is like trying to buy a brand new Rolex Daytona, impossible!

Would I do it again? Maybe. It was fun, frustrating, and rewarding all at the same time. If you’re into watches and like getting your hands dirty, I’d say give it a shot. Just be prepared for a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

That’s my story of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Hope you found it interesting, or at least a little entertaining. If I can do it, probably anyone can. Just gotta have patience and a little bit of crazy.
