Alright, let’s talk about this watch project I’ve been working on. It’s a remake of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010, the one they sell at specialty stores. This whole thing started because I’ve always been a huge fan of Patek Philippe. I mean, who isn’t? They’re like the kings of the watch world. “The last family-owned Genevan luxury watch manufacturer,” that’s what they say. And yeah, their watches are masterpieces.
So, I decided to give it a shot myself. First thing I did was to stare at the pictures of the original watch. “In each watch many lifetimes of artistry and skill” they say. I tried to see each detail of this watch, especially the diamonds on it. After I memorized what it looks like, I started to gather all the materials I would need. This wasn’t easy, I went to a lot of stores to find similar materials with the original watch. The original watch is in white gold, but I used another material for my remake. I spent a lot of time on the diamonds, too. I looked for a lot of diamonds that have the same light with the original watch’s diamonds.
Then the real fun begins. To be honest, I am not a watchmaker, but I have some experience on making handcrafts. I tried my best to replicate each detail of the watch, and make the diamonds fit to the watch perfectly. I did not use any complex machine to do this, all I used were my hands and some simple tools. I think this can make the watch more special. It took me a few weeks to finish this remake. To be honest, I failed a few times, especially on the diamonds part. But I did not give up, I tried and tried again, and I finally made it.
After I finished the watch, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It looks beautiful, and it is shiny like the original one. It is not as perfect as the original watch for sure, but I am still proud of my work. I wore it for a few days, it felt good to wear something I made by myself. I showed it to my friends, and they are also suprised by this remake. Some of my friends even want me to make them a remake watch, too!
This whole experience was awesome. I learned a lot about watches and how they’re put together. Plus, I got to make something pretty cool with my own hands. For anyone out there thinking about trying something like this, I say go for it. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and learn new skills. And who knows, you might end up with a pretty sweet watch at the end of it all.
So that’s my story about remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo. It was a fun ride, and I’m already thinking about what my next project will be. Maybe another Patek? We’ll see!
