So, I have been wanting a Rolex GMT-Master II for a while now, but let’s be real, the price tag is way out of my league. I mean, who has ten grand just lying around for a watch? Not me, that’s for sure. Then, I heard about these “high imitation” watches. Apparently, they look just like the real deal, but they are way cheaper. The idea struck me – why not build one myself?
Finding the Parts
First things first, I needed to find the parts. This was a bit of a challenge, to be honest. But you know, if you dig around online, you can find some pretty good imitation stuff.
- I managed to find a case that looked pretty decent, it had the right shape and everything.
- Then there was the bezel, the thing that goes around the watch face. I found one that was close enough to the real thing.
- The hands were tricky. I heard that sometimes the edges of the imitation Rolex hands can be a little rough, and the paint job on the GMT hands can be off. But I found some that looked alright.
- And of course, I needed a movement, the mechanism that makes the watch tick. I found a decent one that said it was suitable for a GMT-Master II.
Putting It Together
Once I got all the parts, it was time to put the thing together. Now, I am not a watchmaker, but I am pretty handy, so I figured I could give it a shot.
- I started by carefully placing the movement inside the case. This was nerve-wracking, I did not want to mess it up.
- Next, I attached the hands to the movement. This required a steady hand and a lot of patience.
- Then, I put on the watch face and carefully placed the bezel on top.
- Finally, I attached the bracelet, which was surprisingly easy compared to the rest.
The Final Product
After a few hours of work, I had a fully assembled high imitation Rolex GMT-Master II left-handed version. And you know what? It looked pretty darn good! I mean, it is not a real Rolex, but it sure looks like one. And for a fraction of the price, I am pretty happy with it. Now I can kinda show off a little, just like my neighbor’s kid, haha. It is a “high imitation” something, you know. But hey, to most people, it is a Rolex. And that is pretty cool, right?
