So, I saw this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag online and I was like, “I gotta have it!” But the price tag? Ouch. No way I could drop that kind of cash. But I’m not one to give up easily. I’m pretty handy, and I thought, “Why not try to remake it myself?”
First, I looked everywhere online to find a place to buy the materials. I checked out that Shopee site – it’s huge in Southeast Asia, they said. It has everything. And Temu, too. They’ve got a ton of fashion stuff. I even looked at some random online shop for car parts and phones and computers that I also searched, thinking maybe they’d have some leather scraps or something. No luck.
I got frustrated. I mean, there has to be a way to do this right? I considered checking out a BERSHKA store. They’ve got trendy stuff, so maybe they’d have something similar I could use as a base. But then I’d be cutting up a new bag, and that felt wrong, not to mention it is not my style and it did not have what I need.
Then it hit me – portable speakers! You know, those Bluetooth ones that are all the rage now? Some of them have that kind of textured leather look. The problem is I do not have a portable speaker like that, so it did not solve my problem.
Finally, I realized I was going about this all wrong. I wasn’t going to find the perfect materials just lying around. It won’t work that way. I needed to source the Saffiano leather myself, get the right hardware, and figure out the pattern. What a big project! But I am so excited about it!
I did some more digging and found a supplier for the leather. It wasn’t cheap, but it was way less than the original bag. And I mean it is real Saffiano leather. Then I ordered a bunch of zippers, buckles, and the PRADA logo online. I have a friend who’s a wizard with a sewing machine, so I called her and we figured out the pattern together. I must learn how to use the sewing machine.
It took weeks, but we finally did it! We made the bag! It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty darn close to the real thing. I’m so proud of it. It has that same luxurious feel and it looks amazing. It is not easy, but we did it!
Here’s what I learned from this whole experience:
- Don’t be afraid to get creative. Sometimes you have to think outside the box to find what you need.
- It’s okay to ask for help. I couldn’t have done this without my friend’s sewing skills.
- Persistence pays off. It took a lot of time and effort, but I finally got the bag I wanted.
