Alright, so, I’ve been wanting to remake this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now. It’s such a classic style, you know? And I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I did.
First things first, I got all my materials together. I mean, you can’t just start without the right stuff, right? So, I went around and made sure I had some decent quality Saffiano leather – the real deal, not that fake stuff. I also picked up some sturdy lining fabric, some good quality thread, and all the little bits and pieces like zippers, buckles, and that iconic Prada logo. Oh, and the tools! Can’t forget about those. I needed my leather cutting tools, my stitching awl, needles, a good hammer, and a few other things I had lying around in my workshop.
Next, I spent some time really studying the original bag. I mean, I looked at every stitch, every corner, every little detail. I took a bunch of photos, and even sketched out some of the trickier parts. I wanted to make sure I got it as close to the original as possible. This took some time, but hey, you can’t rush perfection, or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Then came the cutting. Man, cutting leather is no joke. You gotta be precise, or else you’ll end up with a wonky-looking bag. I carefully marked out all the pieces on the leather, using the measurements I had taken from the original. I double-checked, triple-checked, and then, with a deep breath, I started cutting. It was slow going, but I managed to get all the pieces cut out without messing up too badly.
- Mark the leather carefully.
- Double check the measurements.
- Cut slowly and precisely.
- Pray that you don’t mess up a piece of leather.
After that, it was time to start assembling. I started with the lining, sewing the pieces together to create the inner part of the bag. That was relatively straightforward. The tricky part was the exterior. Stitching Saffiano leather is tough. It’s thick and you need to make sure your stitches are strong and even. I used my stitching awl to punch the holes and then hand-stitched everything together. It was time-consuming, I did not rush to finish my work, to make it best. My fingers were sore, but it was worth it. Slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape.
The next challenge was attaching the hardware. Getting the buckles and the logo just right was a pain in the you-know-what. But I took my time and was patient, and eventually, I got everything attached securely and looking pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.
Finally, after days of work, the bag was finished. I stepped back and took a good look at it. Was it perfect? No. Was it a pretty good replica of the PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag? I think so. It felt good to hold it in my hands, knowing that I had made it myself.
The Final Touch
I even added a little personal touch – a small pocket on the inside with my initials stitched into it. Just a little something to make it truly mine. All in all, it was a fun project. Tough, but fun. Would I do it again? Maybe. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy carrying my very own “Prada” bag.
