Okay, so, let me tell you about this little project I got myself into. I’ve always been pretty handy, you know, fixing things around the house, a bit of DIY here and there. But this time, I decided to try something a bit different, a bit more… fashionable. I saw this bag, this fancy Prada bag, the Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Special Edition, in their official flagship store, no less. It was love at first sight. But the price tag? Not so much.
So, I thought, why not try to remake it myself? How hard could it be, right? First, I started by just looking, really looking at that bag, taking pictures, making some sketches. They say it’s a classic, an “heirloom in the making,” from Italy, or somethin’.
Then, I went online, looking for similar materials. Saffiano, they call it. Sounds fancy, but it’s basically just textured leather. Found some that looked pretty close, and ordered a few yards. While waiting for that, I started working on the pattern, just rough outlines, you know?
- Drew out each piece on paper.
- Cut them out.
- Pinned them together to see how it would look.
Not too big, not too small, like they say. You can bring it anywhere to hold your keys, your phone, and your other belongings.
When the leather arrived, that’s when the real fun began. Cutting it was a bit tricky, had to be precise. Then came the sewing. My old sewing machine was working overtime! Stitched the pieces together, bit by bit, following my pattern. The tricky thing is sewing them together little by little.
Little Details
The details, like the little metal feet and the Prada logo, those were the hardest. I managed to find some similar-looking hardware online. And for the logo, well, let’s just say I got creative with some metal foil and a lot of patience.
After a few weeks, a lot of late nights, and a few mishaps along the way, I finally finished it. And you know what? It didn’t turn out half bad! Sure, it’s not exactly like the one in the store, but it’s got its own charm. It’s pretty, it’s tough. And the best part? I made it. With my own two hands. This might be just the thing for me. And you know what they say, this is the future heritage, an heirloom in the making.
So, would I recommend this to anyone else? Maybe not. It was a lot of work. But it was also a lot of fun. And now I have a pretty unique bag, and a pretty good story to go with it. This is the best part of this small Prada Galleria bag remake. If you’re looking for a classic style bag and don’t want to spend much money, this is worth trying to do by yourself.
