Alright, so I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now, and I finally got around to it. I tried to remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001, that classic style everyone loves. Let me tell you, it wasn’t a walk in the park, but it was definitely worth the effort.
First off, I started by gathering all the materials I needed. I mean, you can’t just jump into something like this without being prepared, right? I spent hours looking at pictures of the original watch. I needed to get a good look at the watch case. I found some info saying the case is 39mm in diameter and 8.08mm thick. It’s polished, you know, giving it that shiny, expensive look. Also the real one is water-resistant to 30 meters, not that I’m planning on taking mine for a swim anytime soon!
Then came the fun part – actually making the thing. I started with the case. It is round and polished, just like the real deal. Took me a while to get the shape just right, and then the polishing. But eventually, I got it to a point where I was pretty happy with it. I try to make it look as close to the original as possible. It took me forever, but I think I got it pretty close. It is polished, and the size is around what I wanted.
- Sourcing the materials: This took some time. I had to make sure everything was the right size.
- Shaping the case: Oh boy, this was tricky. Getting that perfect round shape and then polishing it to a shine was no easy task. It had to be just right, you know?
- Assembling everything: This was probably the most nerve-wracking part. One wrong move and I could mess up the whole thing. But I took it slow, one step at a time, and eventually, I had a fully assembled watch.
It took me a good chunk of time to do it. I mean, I’m not a professional watchmaker or anything, so it was all a learning process for me. It took me several days, working on and off, to finish it. I also checked some watch selling websites. You know just want to know how much the real one costs. It’s really expensive! I guess that’s why I have to make it myself.
But in the end, seeing the finished product made it all worth it. It’s not perfect, of course, but it’s mine, and I made it with my own two hands. And that’s something special, you know?
I also found the contact info of some watch dealers. But I don’t have that kind of money. I just want to see how they do business. I guess I can call them if I need any help.
So yeah, that’s my little project. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a ton along the way. Maybe one day I’ll even try to make another one. Who knows?
