Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001 for a while now. But, you know, those things are crazy expensive. So I thought, why not try to make one myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
First things first, I needed to find some good reference materials. I spent hours online, looking at pictures, watching videos, and reading everything I could about the watch. I really wanted to get all the details right.
Then came the fun part – gathering the materials. I ordered some basic watch parts and some tools online. I wasn’t exactly sure what I needed, so I might have gone a bit overboard, I might’ve bought some extra. But I was determined to give this a try.
- Watch hands
- Watch case
- Watch dial
- Watch strap
- Screws
- Spring bars
- Movement parts(Maybe)
Next, I started putting the watch together. Let me tell you, it was way harder than I thought it would be. Those tiny screws were a nightmare to handle. I probably dropped them a million times. It was a frustrating process, but I just kept going. After many hours, I was getting somewhere.
I followed the tutorials I found online as best as I could, but I definitely had to improvise a lot. I mean, I’m no watchmaker, so I had to get creative. I used whatever tools I had lying around, and I even made some of my own tools when I needed to.
After what felt like forever, I finally finished putting the watch together. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. There were a few scratches here and there, and the hands weren’t perfectly aligned. But, it looked like a watch. It actually looked like the Gondolo 7041R-001. Not bad, right? I felt so satisfied.
But then came the real test – would it actually work? I wound it up, held my breath, and… it started ticking! I couldn’t believe it. My homemade watch was actually working. Sure, it probably wouldn’t keep time as well as the real thing, but it worked! I did it!
Result
All in all, this was a really fun and rewarding project. I learned a lot about watches and about my own patience. I’m wearing this watch all the time and sharing my story with all of my friends. Would I do it again? Maybe not. But I’m definitely glad I tried it. And who knows, maybe this is the start of a new hobby for me. Next time I’ll try to remake a Rolex. Maybe. Let’s see.
