I’ve been seeing this Yves Saint Laurent, or YSL, bag all over the internet lately. It’s called the JUNE BOX BAG, and people are going crazy for it. I saw some folks talking about remaking it, which got me thinking, maybe I could do that too. I mean, I’m pretty handy, and it looked like a fun project.
So, I started digging around to learn more about this bag. Turns out, it’s a classic style from YSL, a fancy French brand founded in 1961. They’re known for their luxury goods, and their bags are supposed to be a good investment because they hold their value. That’s a plus, right?
I watched a bunch of videos and read some articles about remaking bags. It seemed doable, but I needed to get my hands on the real deal first. After searching high and low, I managed to find an “original order” YSL JUNE BOX BAG. I mean it will be a good thing to have. This is the best price I could find, and it looked pretty darn close to the pictures I’d seen online.
Getting Started
- First things first, I laid out all my tools and materials. I had some leather, thread, needles, a cutting mat, a rotary cutter, and a few other bits and bobs. I felt like a real craftsman, ready to tackle this project.
- I carefully examined the bag, taking note of all the details. The stitching, the hardware, the way the leather was folded and joined. I wanted to make sure I understood how it was all put together.
The Process
I started by carefully taking the bag apart. This was the most nerve-wracking part because I didn’t want to damage anything. I used a seam ripper to gently remove the stitching, and I labeled each piece so I wouldn’t get confused later.
Once the bag was disassembled, I used the original pieces as patterns to cut out new pieces from my leather. I made sure to cut slowly and carefully, following the lines as closely as possible. It was like a puzzle, making sure all the pieces fit together perfectly.
Next came the sewing. This was the most time-consuming part, but also the most satisfying. I used a saddle stitch, which is a strong and durable stitch often used in leatherwork. It took a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, it was actually quite relaxing.
I slowly stitched the bag back together, following the original stitching holes as a guide. It was amazing to see it all coming together, piece by piece. I added the hardware, like the YSL logo and the clasp, and it started to look like a real bag again.
The Final Result
After many hours of work, I finally finished my remake of the YSL JUNE BOX BAG. And I have to say, I was pretty darn proud of myself. It wasn’t perfect, of course, but it looked remarkably close to the original. It was sturdy, well-made, and had that classic YSL style.
This project was a real learning experience for me. I learned a lot about leatherwork, about bag construction, and about the history of YSL. But most importantly, I learned that I could do anything I set my mind to. It just takes a little bit of patience, a lot of hard work, and a whole lot of passion. And that YSL logo, it’s on all the bags.
